Honest questions, before you begin.
Claridad general questions.
-
Every couple. No exceptions.
Heterosexual couples and LGBTQ+ couples. Couples newly engaged and couples engaged for years. Couples preparing for their first marriage and couples preparing for their second. Couples who share a faith, couples from different traditions, and couples who don't practice any. Couples already living together and couples not yet. Long-distance couples. Couples building blended families. Couples who've been together five months or twenty-five years and want to do this work intentionally.
The inventory adapts. The language adapts. The assumptions get checked at the door. We don't change the rigor of the work for any couple — we change the language and assumptions to match the couple in front of us, every time.

Yes. Gift cards are available for any package on either path. You pick what you'd like to give; we send you a digital gift card. The couple redeems it on their own time, completes their inventory, and books sessions when they're ready. Gift cards are valid for one year. More on the Gift a Session page.

We start with a short conversation to get to know each other. I'll explain how the inventory works, walk you through the next steps, and answer any questions you have.
Then, both of you complete the FOCCUS or REFOCCUS inventory online — separately, on your own time. The number of questions depends on your situation (whether you're already living together, whether you're an interfaith couple, whether children are part of the picture, and so on). Each question is answered with a Yes, No, or I Don't Know. The inventory generates a personalized report highlighting areas of strong alignment, areas of disconnection, and topics worth talking about.
In each session, we work through specific topics from the report. I don't read it to you — we use it as a map. You'll talk to each other more than to me. My job is to ask the questions that help you go deeper, hold space when conversations get tender, and offer language for things that didn't have language before.
Each session lasts 60 to 75 minutes. Most couples meet with me for three to five sessions, scheduled weekly or every two weeks.
-
Absolutely! What's said in a Claridad session stays in a Claridad session. We don't share the contents of your conversations with anyone — not your families, not your wedding officiants, not the parish if there is one. The only exception is if there's an immediate safety concern, in which case we follow Florida's standard mandated-reporting practices.
Your inventory results belong to you. We use them during sessions, and we'll share a copy with you if you'd like to keep it.
-
Before the Yes is for couples preparing for marriage — engaged couples, couples renewing their commitment, couples making a major life decision together. It uses the FOCCUS inventory.
Rediscovery is for couples who have been together five years or longer and want to reconnect, recalibrate, or pay attention to their relationship in an intentional way. It uses the REFOCCUS inventory.
If you're not sure which is right for you, the discovery call is the place to figure it out together.
-
No. Claridad is relationship preparation and enrichment — not therapy, not counseling, not mental health treatment. In Florida, "counseling" is a protected term under Chapter 491 of Florida Statutes, and we don't use it.
What we do is guided, structured conversation that helps couples surface the topics most marriages struggle with — money, family, intimacy, communication, future plans — before those topics arrive at the worst possible time. If your relationship is in crisis or you need clinical support, a licensed therapist is the right person, and we're happy to suggest referrals.
-
No. We use the FOCCUS and REFOCCUS inventories because decades of research show they produce the conversations couples most need to have. The instruments themselves were developed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Omaha, but Claridad is entirely independent — from FOCCUS Inc. USA, from the Archdiocese, and from any church. In our sessions, the spirituality questions become conversations about values and meaning. If a couple wants to foreground faith, we honor that. If they don't, we don't.
-
No.
Video sessions — in English or Spanish — are available from anywhere, and are how most of the couples meet with us. The quality of the facilitation is identical either way. What matters is the conversation between the two of you.
In-person sessions are available in St. Augustine and nearby areas.
-
Both. Claridad facilitates in English and Spanish as equals — not as translation. You choose the language at the discovery call, and we hold the entire process in that language: the inventory, the sessions, the materials. Some couples prefer mixing languages naturally as the conversation calls for it. That's welcome too.
-
A fixed deposit holds your booking; the balance is paid before your second session. This lets you commit without paying everything upfront, and lets us hold a real space on the calendar for the work you're committing to.
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We accept all major credit and debit cards. We don't take insurance — Claridad is not a medical service.
Full pricing is on the Services page.
The Ceremony FAQ
-
Yes. I am an ordained minister in the state of Florida and legally authorized to perform wedding ceremonies and sign marriage licenses. After your ceremony, I file the completed license with the appropriate county clerk — you don't have to do anything.
-
No. The Ceremony is available as a standalone service. That said, couples who complete a Before the Yes preparation package receive a meaningful discount on any ceremony tier — $75 to $200 off depending on the tier chosen. The two services are designed to work together, but neither requires the other.
-
As early as possible — ideally four to six months before your wedding date. Florida's wedding season runs nearly year-round, and ceremony dates fill quickly. If your date is within sixty days, contact me before booking online and I'll let you know what's available.
-
Yes, within Northeast Florida. Travel within the greater St. Augustine area is included in all tiers. For venues beyond a 30-mile radius, a travel fee applies — discussed and confirmed before you book, never a surprise.
All ceremonies within 30 miles of St. Augustine are included in your package. A flat travel fee of $75 applies for locations between 30 and 50 miles. Beyond 50 miles, reach out and we'll work something out.
-
Yes. I write and officiate ceremonies across the full range: secular and non-religious, interfaith, spiritual-but-not-religious, culturally rooted, LGBTQ+, blended family, and everything in between. The ceremony is written around your story and your values — not a template, not a default.
-
It's a structured conversation — usually 60 minutes — where we go through everything: the tone you want, the structure, the readings if any, the vows, the rituals, any cultural or family traditions you want to honor. I take notes; you talk. The script I write afterward comes from that conversation, not from a generic template.
-
Yes — and I'll help you if you want that. The Complete and Profound tiers include a dedicated vow writing guidance session. Even in the Essential tier, writing your own vows is welcome; I'll give you a framework and review what you write before the day.
-
No. Add-ons are entirely optional. They're specific ceremony rituals — sand ceremony, unity candle, handfasting, honey ceremony, wedding rosary, and others — that some couples want to incorporate. Each one is offered with materials included and ceremony language written for your specific context. If you have a family tradition or ritual not on the list, ask — I'll tell you honestly whether I can accommodate it.
-
Contact me as soon as you know. I work with couples to accommodate reasonable changes — venue shifts, time adjustments, outdoor-to-indoor moves. What I can't guarantee is availability for a completely new date on short notice, which is another reason early booking matters. My policy on cancellations and rescheduling is covered in your service agreement before you commit to anything.
-
Only if you want it to. The wedding rosary (also called the lazo) is a meaningful tradition in Catholic and Latin American ceremonies, and I offer it as a cultural option — not a default, not a requirement. The language I write around it can honor the tradition's spiritual roots or treat it as a cultural and family gesture. Your ceremony reflects your meaning, not mine.
-
Every Complete and Profound package includes a rehearsal planning session — a dedicated conversation to walk through your ceremony sequence, timing, and cues so everyone knows their role before the day. The Profound package adds in-person rehearsal attendance: I'm at your venue with your wedding party, running the full flow together.
-
Florida requires both partners to appear in person at the County Clerk's office with valid photo ID. I'll guide you through exactly what to bring and when to go. After your ceremony, I handle the filing — signed and returned to the Clerk within the required window, so your certified copy reaches you without any follow-up on your end.
-
Yes. Florida law entitles couples who complete a premarital preparation course to a reduced marriage license fee — from $86 to $61. If you're booking The Foundation, I'll make sure you have everything you need to claim it.
The questions we hear most often, answered plainly. If yours isn't here, send it our way.
